Raising a kid is a big responsibility, you have an influence on a human being who will outgrow you, and teach what you've taught to him to his offspring and so on.
It's not really as scary as it sounds though. Just be the dad you would want if you were a kid, minus spoiling the kid rotten and you'll do fine.
